A few months ago, the Eco Group received an invitation from David Coleman, the Eco Congregation Chaplain, to prepare a short video message for their Advent Calendar.
It was edited by David Coleman. Inverleith St Serf’s day is the 18th but this video was shown in church today for those who do not have access to the internet or Facebook and is part of this week’s reflection.
Call to Worship
Jesus, our Prince of Peace, we pray that every time a carol is sung, a Christmas greeting spoken, a nativity play performed, that your name be honoured and glorified and that hard hearts be melted to receive you afresh. Amen
Lighting of the Third Advent Candle
Let your light shine. Let your spirit soar. Throw open your mind. Hand over your heart. Here it comes – love. It shines in the darkness.
It sings in the shadows. It will not cower and cannot be contained. It was the hope of the saints, the call of the prophets. It was the courage of Mary.
Lamp in the window, beacon on the hill, star in the night sky. Love, you lead us home.
On this third Sunday of Advent, we light a candle for love.
We light a candle for love. May it light the way.
ADVENT HYMN to the Tune “The road and the miles to Dundee” (697 in CH4)
1. The candle that burns is our hope in Christ Jesus;
It spreads in the darkness, and glows in our hearts;
Whenever our hope seems to fade and to falter
Remember this candle, and hope in our Lord.
2. The candle that burns is our peace in Christ Jesus;
It spreads round the world and envelops us all;
Whenever our peace is disturbed by our sadness
Remember this candle, and peace will embrace.
3. The candle that burns is our love for Christ Jesus;
It spreads from his care and embraces our lives;
Whenever our love is being tested so sorely,
Remember this candle, and love once again.

Blessing
Lord, as we leave this time of worship
and go out into our communities
open our eyes to your work around us
open our ears to your calling on our time and talents
may we be ready to be agents of transformation.
