Wednesday (Matthew ch 26 vs 1 – 16)
The plotting against Jesus increases..
Jesus is at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,
when a woman comes to him with a small bottle of fragrant oil which was very costly;
and as he sits at table she begins to pour it over his head and feet.
The disciples – or a least one of them – object …
“This ointment could have been sold and given to the poor.”
Jesus says, “She has done a beautiful thing to me.”
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing.
Creator God,
You made all people in your image,
and gave to some special talents to explore your beauty,
Help us, like your Son, to delight in extravagant generosity empowered by selfless love,
And grant us the discernment of the Spirit in responding to both artistry and poverty
May we too look for the beautiful things we can do for others,
we pray in the name of Jesus, your anointed one.
Amen.
Then one of the twelve goes to the chief priests to betray Jesus.
When they hear what he has come for they are greatly pleased.
