Successful Springclear event for Freshstart

The congregation’s Eco Group organised a successful Spring Clear Weekend raising donations for and awareness of FreshStart, the local charity which helps the homeless get started in there own homes.

There was a lovely afternoon tea with home-made pancakes and scones and great chat on 26 April.  Members had been invited to bring donations of household goods – and an impressive collection of everything from sheets to a food processor were gathered in the sanctuary for morning worship on Sunday 27 April.  In addition, those attending the Afternoon Tea had donated £300.

Biddy Kelly, CEO of FreshStart, outlined to the congregation at the Sunday morning service the range of services provided by FreshStart.  The original starter packs are still provided but there is also a community hub where meals are served, clients can select food items from the Pantry for a small subscription and even cooking lessons are held, among much else.  The Rev Dorothy U Anderson preached on a theme of fresh starts based on the story of Doubting Thomas.
