Wednesday Reflection for 12th March

Starting the journey

On the first Sunday in Lent we read in Luke’s gospel (ch4: vs 1 to 13) of the start of Jesus ministry. He had just been baptised in the Jordan by John the Baptist, a real high point in his life and then he went into the wilderness where he faced severe testing trying to divert him from the road ahead of him.

The journey through life asks us to look at our attitudes to right and wrong, and to be able to discern the right path to take. Not easy.

But as the words of a hymn we sang on Sunday says;

And still today temptation taunts:

how well we know its voice!

We know the path we ought to take,

but fail to make the choice.

You placed your kingdom in our hands –

new challenges each day –

and your compassion joins us here,

for you have passed this way.”
