Wednesday Reflection
This week, at the Guild, the speaker was one of our own members who shared with us her memories of being a military wife.
Her husband had been in the Education Corps and they had been moved to many places in both the Navy and Army, raising a family and coping in different circumstances. It has been a life of happiness along with more difficult times. A life needing resilience.
Each section of the forces has its own prayer. The badge of the Royal Army Education Corps is a ‘torch of learning’ – shining light into the darkness of ignorance.
During the week we were able to find the special prayer of the Education Corps. The version below has been revised a little from the original prayer of The Royal Army Education Corps which is more focused on the Army, so that we can see our own lives in its light.
Almighty God, whose word gives light in the darkness, grant to us that with steadfast hands we may carry into the world the torch of learning and that with your aid, we may gain not only knowledge but wisdom, and may come to understand more clearly your purpose for humankind. May we discern your presence everywhere in nature and in peoples’ minds, so that our teaching may bear constant witness to him, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
We all have the task of carrying the torch of God’s light into the world, opening our minds to His light and to share it with others.
And by passing on the torch to those who come after us we grow the Kingdom of God down the generations.
