Wednesday Reflection for 14th May

Yesterday, the garden group had a busy day in the Church gardens. Tidying and sorting out the ‘Gardeners’ cupboard, clearing dead branches from an area of untouched shrubbery, receiving tools, pots and plants ready for the Garden Stall at the June 14th Summer Fair, lifting the spring primulas and planting up the Remembrance garden area with new summer plants we have been bringing on in a greenhouse a couple of miles away.

No time to stand and stare at what was around us, just to get on and work.

But after all the work there was a moment of being still, looking around at what had been achieved.

Time to take a deep breath and let the background noise of Ferry Road traffic fade away and seeing the growth from previous garden days;

letting the calm of the green spaces refresh our minds;

letting the joy of the blossom lift our spirits.

On Sunday, we used this Call to Worship,

Day by day, God leads us:

to the deep, deep pools of peace,

to the green, lush lawns of grace.

Day by day, Jesus calls us:

to pour out ourselves in service,

to anoint the stranger with hope.

Day by day, the Holy Spirit shows us:

the community we could be,

the family we are called to become.
