Wednesday Reflection for 19th February

Last Sunday we sang hymn 485 from CH4, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind.

A peaceful hymn encouraging us to take time with God. Time from our busy lives.

A really hard thing to do – for many, some days, most days, seem endlessly full of activity, trying to complete the ‘list’ of essential items. Much of it has to be achieved for the smooth running of our lives and those who depend on us and stress levels mount.

Even Jesus had to seek out times of quietness from the crowds surrounding him seeking healing, teaching and just to see him.

Verse 5 says,

Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease;

take from our souls the strain and stress

and let our ordered lives confess

the beauty of thy peace.”

Or as the opening prayer at the Early Birds service said,

May today bring rest and joy to our hearts and our homes.

May today be a little less go, go, go,

and a little more slow… slow… slow…

May we care less about things, and care more for people.

As we relax in God’s love, may we take time to listen

and remember that we are all God’s children.”
