Persevering on the path
Our reading on Sunday from Luke ch 13 tells us of Jesus continuing on his way to Jerusalem, teaching and healing as he went. But he was still being faced with people trying to turn him away from his path with stories of how Herod was out to kill him; how he should go away somewhere else.
But Jesus would not be turned from his path. He was going to walk the way set before him even knowing the outcome; he would continue on his path today and tomorrow and the next day because it was unthinkable for a prophet to meet his death anywhere but Jerusalem.
As we walk the path ourselves day by day through all that lies before us, we are going with our pilgrim guide until we reach the journey’s end wherever it takes us.
As Psalm 37 says;
Commit your life to the Lord;
trust in him and he will act.
And later on;
It is the Lord who guides your steps,
He holds you firm and watches over your path,
Though you may fall, you will not go headlong,
for the Lord grasps you by the hand
