Let us build a house.
This is the Guild theme for the next 3 years. Yesterday afternoon, we had a very active Guild meeting based around this theme.
We sang, “ Brother, sister let me serve you”; found out more about the folk around us; and built our own ‘building’ either from spaghetti and marshmallows, or straws and pipe cleaners or children’s small plastic bricks.
Both activities reminding us that working together gives the best results.
Our reading was verses from Acts chapter 2 that are usually read at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to the disciples.
In verses 41 to 47 we read about the beginning of the church, the building of the church, the house of God.
There were several steps.
First listening to and learning in depth about the news of Jesus, then togetherness in community with sacrament (the breaking of bread) and prayer leading to holiness and trust in God.
They felt overcome by awe because of the things that happened, the signs and wonders being done by the apostles. This led to sharing and taking responsibility for each other and to worship both formal in church and informal at home.
The believers were glad and happy as they met together and others saw this and found it attractive.
Because of all these things the Church was built and grew.
Because of all these things the Church will build and grow.
