This month we have been following the Exodus passages as the Israelites escaped from captivity in Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea and continuing their challenging journey through wilderness places, often running out of food and especially water. But God provided. This has linked with Jesus promising the Living Water.

Here is our call to worship that we are using each week in September. Let us read it through several times this week, allowing different thoughts to come to mind and links to what we know personally through the bible and our own journey through the wilderness places of life.

We gather at the edge of holy ground

Where every drop of water holds a prayer

Where deep calls unto deep with surging sound

And God’s own Spirit breathes through earth and air.

Too long in fear we claimed the world our own,

And closed our eyes to where the waters rise;

Yet love breaks the hardness of our stone,

And opens up the desert to the skies!

Come, step into the deep, transforming tide

That leads us through the formless sea,

Where broad waves wash clean our pride

And mercy flows to set the captive free.

Move through our worship and our days;

O Living Water, make creation whole;

Tune every creature to your song of praise,

And spring eternal in the human soul!

Out of the Uncreated Fountainhead

The living streams of grace forever run;

Through parched and weary places we are led

To praise the Maker, Spirit, and the Son.
