This week, as we near the time of year when many look forward to a summer holiday, we have a prayer to reflect on.

Lord of creation, we thank you for the joy summer days bring us. For the joy of being part of your creation. The joy that lifts our spirits as we experience the sun’s long hours of light and warmth; as we see nature growing and blooming around us.
For the joy of being a part of all you have created, we thank you.

Lord of the world, there is darkness in so many places: caused by war and conflict; storms, floods and disrupted seasons; famine and disease; political upheaval and confrontation.

We pray that those seeking to enable the light of peace, healing and reconciliation to shine are strengthened and encouraged to keep going.

Lord of our nation, the haar sweeps in, hiding the way through all the difficulties around us: caused by economic problems; wrong ways taken; failing services and divisions in society.

We pray that those charged with leading us forward over uncertain ground will find the light showing the right way ahead to clearer paths.

Lord of our lives, black clouds could overwhelm us: caused by anxiety for ourselves and others we love; grief and sorrow; failing health and strength; news of disaster and horrors near and far.

Enable us to look to you, to find your light and feel your love warming us through so that together, we can live in joy and work for your Kingdom to come in the world, in our nation and in ourselves, as it is in heaven,

Amen
