Wednesday Reflection for 28th August
After a quieter summer we return to our usual church routine when children’s groups like Early Birds, the Pram Service, the Toddler’s group get going again; the Guild, the Coffee House, Nostalgia Cafe and Book Group get underway; and the halls are filled with all sorts of community groups from Rainbows, Brownies and Guides to the University of the Third Age Country Dancing group; from Karate to Orchestra rehearsals and more.
It all seems very busy.
Our thoughts turn to the Harvest service and lunch; to coffee mornings; to Remembrance Sunday; and maybe even forward far enough to catch a glimpse of special Christmas events in the near distance.
It can seem so busy, full of organisation, full of doing.
But, as the summer Wednesday reflection hymn (CH4 no. 485) from August 14th, just 2 weeks ago reminded us we need to make time to wait and listen for “God’s still, small voice of calm”; to allow him to speak to us “through all our words and works that drown the tender whisper of His call”.
Each Wednesday over the next few weeks we will post some thoughts on ‘Mission’ for us all to consider and comment on. These were gathered when this congregation decided on its Mission statement for the Inverleith St Serf’s Church new website Mission page.
Today we think about this vision statement from an Aberdeen Church
Our Vision, as a family of faith in Jesus Christ, is to grow in our love of God and our neighbour, in our worship and our prayer; to grow spiritually in our faith, in our fellowship with other believers and with each other; to grow in nurturing and helping people of all ages and backgrounds, in sharing the Good News of Jesus and in reaching out to the community, the nation and the world.
