This week we focus on a prayer written for our November Magazine by James Robertson.
Heavenly father,
We notice each day that it is a shorter day,
As darkness descends, light becomes less,
Our minds and our bodies may resist this shortening,
Our spirits might ebb rather than flow,
But there is another light, and it continues to stream,
Help us to kindle the light that is within each one of us.
Loving Jesus,
We notice our neighbours, near and far,
Those whom we know, those whom we have yet to know
And those whom we may never know,
Who, perhaps through loneliness, anxiety, loss or ill health,
Are finding less light more pressing, perhaps depressing,
But there is a stronger light, and it continues to stream,
Help us to kindle the light that is within each one of them.
Gracious spirit,
We notice communities and countries,
Close to home and overseas
Where there seems to be shadow rather than light,
Whether through war, famine, displacement or poverty,
Light flickers rather than flourishes,
But there is an eternal light, and it continues to stream,
Help us to kindle the light
So that it might freely burn throughout our world.
Amen.
