Last Friday some of us met to share in a Bible study in preparation for the World Day of Prayer service on March 6thprepared by the Committee of Nigeria.
So, at a time of uncertainty, of excitement, of change, of looking forward in our congregation we use some of the World Day of Prayer bible study material. The theme this year is “I will give you rest: Come” .
We began by talking together about “What does the idea of rest mean to you in your current life situation?”
Take time to think through what this question means for you.
‘In every age people have carried different kinds of burdens, each one weighing heavily on body, mind and spirit. Through exploring four specific burdens – shame, systemic oppression, religious persecution and poverty and despair – we thought of how God’s promise of rest speaks to the deepest struggles of our time.’
Later in March we will share the stories of our Nigerian sisters at the WDP worship service helping us to understand both the weight of human suffering and the profound rest that God offers.
Jesus said,”Take my yoke upon you and I will give you rest”.
Look at the Icon of Christ and Abbot St Mena which was shared at our time together. See how Christ’s arm is placed like a yoke across the shoulders of Abbot Mena, a gesture of friendship and comfort and take that image with you into your life as you walk forward into the future.
