Wednesday Reflection for 4th September

Wednesday Reflection

Over the summer months we posted a selection of hymns chosen by members of the congregation. Hymns that meant a lot to them and for us all to think about. It was so interesting that there was often a common theme throughout the summer.

Mission; going on a journey through life with God supporting and showing the way forward even through the toughest of times.

A quote I took note of in 2023 and have kept ever since is, ” Mission has the connotation of a journey with a purpose.”

The Mission statement of a congregation is an attempt to give a general direction for a congregation to take so that it faces outwards to the community and world in which it exists.

Our own seemingly simple Mission statement is

To be an effective Christian presence in our community, reaching out in love and service to our parish and beyond.

Every part in this statement sets questions to consider what that means for each of us. How can we, as a group and individually, know how we can be effective; what is a Christian presence; who is our community; and what can our service be?

In the next year or so we will be moving forward into a different future, probably continuing those activities we already have (see church groups and mission pages on this website) and also looking to see where God is leading us.

It may seem daunting but we know that it is a journey with a purpose and that our part of it is to be open to and available for wherever God leads us on our journey together.
