Wednesday Reflection for 8th October

I have been tidying the Church garden box this week and found lots of half used packets of seeds as well as seeds collected straight from interesting plants:- all small yet full of promise and hope for the future.

Jesus disciples asked him, “Lord, increase our faith.” They had some faith but wanted more.

Jesus response is “If you had faith as tiny as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry bush, Be uprooted and planted in the sea!” (Luke 17 vs 5 to 10)

Yes they have faith, however small they think it is, and Jesus is telling them that it is already enough to face up to big challenges.

Faith is not a commodity that God measures out arbitrarily – some disciples getting more and some less. Faith is like the muscular system of our bodies – it grows and is strengthened through use. Faith is the spiritual muscle of God’s grace.

Jesus has given each of us just enough faith to be the people God wants us to be. It may only be a mustard seed of faith, but by God’s grace, it will be enough, full of promise and hope for the future.
