Wednesday Reflection for Christian Aid Week

Aline and her family now
Wednesday Reflection for Christian Aid Week
Last Sunday was the Sunday after Ascension and also the start of Christian Aid Week.
Today we think about the world and what this means for us.

We watched a video featuring Aline who lives in Burundi and whose life had become extremely hard after she was separated from her children when her early marriage ended in abuse and violence. She was helped by Christian Aid to transform her life, starting a small business and was able to make long term plans. This helped her to rent a house and get 3 of her 5 children back.
Here is a link to that video or go to caweek.org and worship to find the film.

Christian Aid Prayer 2024
Loving God
help us to hear the voices of those enduring extreme poverty.
It is hard to listen to stories of pain.
Show us how compassion for others can bring healing and fullness of life for all.
Help us to understand that we are one through your love,
for every human being is loved by you, beyond measure.

Loving God,
you call on us to build your kingdom of justice, mercy and truth.
It isn’t a task for the faint-hearted.
When we lose our sense of purpose, fill us with faith.
When we doubt or throw up our hands in despair, fill us with hope.
When we pass by our neighbour as though we did not know them,
fill us with the love that turns us back and takes us to their aid.
In Jesus’ name, Amen

Litany for Ascension Day
Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God,
a new world has broken into ours -
a world in which justice comes for the poor,
freedom comes for the prisoners,
and healing comes for the sick.

Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God,
a new community has been formed -
a community that loves and cares for all members,
a family that welcomes all who are abandoned and rejected,
a place where all find a place of belonging.

Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God,
a new creation has begun -
all that was distorted is being restored,
all that was corrupted is being renewed,
all that was broken is being made whole.

Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God,
God’s new world has begun.
