On Remembrance Sunday, Susan Brown, former County Commissioner and an elder in the congregation spoke movingly about her recent visit to Hiroshima and its message of peace to the world.

There was a large congregation (numbered at nearly 150) – made up of members of local uniformed youth organisations, their families and friends and our own congregation to hear her.

The Rev Matthew Bicket also preached about Remembrance being not just about remembering the fallen but also about working towards true peace.

Wreaths were laid by our joint session clerks and representatives of the youth organisations at the war memorials commemorating the dead of two world wars  from our two predecessor congregations.   The uniformed organisations paraded their colours as the congregation sang the National Anthem.

It was quite an emotionally charged service – followed by refreshments for all and chat in our large hall.
