Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell, come ye before him, and rejoice.
When I was at school this was the hymn we always sang at the end of term assembly. One which we learnt by heart in music lesson so we could stand tall and sing with all our might. It has overtones of great joyfulness – enhanced by the thought of holidays and time to play!
All our readings, hymns and the reflection this week centred on God’s relationship with us – we thought how young children like to copy their parents’ or carers actions, learning through play. Enjoying the moments together, learning and growing in knowledge, skills and ability.
Having the courage to try new activities comes from feeling safe and being loved. Having a safe space allows children to step out into new places and helps them cope with new challenges.
One of our hymns had this refrain:-
No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I’m clinging.
Since love is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?
