Wednesday Reflection for 13th August

Wednesday Reflection

In our service on Sunday we heard some of the sayings of Gandhi about Christianity.

One of which is, ‘I’d be a Christian were it not for the Christians.’

Then this story from America but which could be from anywhere.

A man was being tailgated by a stressed-out driver on a busy road. Suddenly the lights turned amber just in front of him. He did the right thing and stopped even though he could have beaten the light by accelerating through the junction.

The tailgating driver hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as they missed their chance to get through.

As they were still in mid-rant, there was a tap on the window and they looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered them to get out of the car and took them to the police station where they were searched, finger printed, photographed and then placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. Back at the booking desk the arresting officer was waiting.

He said,”I’m very sorry for this mistake.

You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, shouting and swearing at the man in front.

I noticed the ‘Choose Life’ License plate holder,

the ‘What would Jesus do?’ bumper sticker,

the ‘Follow me to Sunday School’ bumper sticker,

and the chrome plated Christian fish emblem on the boot.

Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car!”
