‘Keep me safe, O God, for in you have I taken refuge.’
This is the beginning of Psalm 16 which we read on Sunday along with the sermon in Acts 2 that Peter gave to the crowd in Jerusalem shortly after Jesus resurrection when he described Jesus arrest, crucifixion and rising again.
In times of trouble, distress, fear and despair it is good to look back to where we came from, the time when we started our journey with God, the step by step way we have come, through times of uncertainty, through times of struggling to keep going and also through the times of certainty, joy and happiness to today.
As the paraphrase of Psalm 16 we sang during the service tells us, “ My heart and soul rejoice in you and in your power to save: you will not leave your Holy One to perish in the grave.”
This is the message that Peter first preached 2000 years ago and which has passed on to us today through the generations.
The path of life has been made known to us;
we know who has been this way before us;
and we know who walks beside us as we follow.
