Wednesday Reflection
I love the Lord, for he has heard me and listens to my prayer;
This is the beginning of Psalm 116 part of which we read on Sunday along with part 2 of the sermon in Acts 2 that Peter gave to the crowd in Jerusalem shortly after Jesus resurrection when he described Jesus arrest, crucifixion and rising again.
We were asked this question, ‘What is the rarest material in the universe?’
Quite a question, just working out what that meant. Universe gave us a clue. In the vastness of the universe what is the rarest material? Material – what object is rarest? Rarest – what has most value to us OR what is there so little of?
Surprisingly, wood is considered one of the rarest materials in the universe. It is only found on earth due to the specific biological processes required for it to grow.
Earth contains so much life and compared to the universe is a rare and amazing creation.
The recently returning astronauts found it so emotional to see the earth against the blackness of space, like a lifeboat carrying a special cargo.
And also carrying a crew, who should be working together as one to bring the ship to a safe landing.
Peter tells the crowd at the end of his sermon that ‘the one they crucified, Jesus, is Lord and Messiah and the promise of forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit is a promise to them, and to their children, and to all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God may call.’
The family of God, across the whole of the world, working as the crew to bring the Kingdom of God to earth.
