Wednesday Reflection for 5th November

This week we are preparing for Remembrance Sunday on the 9th, the nearest Sunday to the 11th November when the First World War in Europe finished and chosen to be a day of remembering the dreadful years of conflict; to remember those who died and those who came back but were changed both physically and mentally; to remember those displaced from their homes.

To remember so that it might not happen again.

Now, more than 100 years later, we still pause each November to remember and there have been so many more wars, from the Second World War to the present day.

It is important to remember each person on our war memorials; to remember each person we know of in our families’ history and our community who have been affected in any war; to remember those most nearly affected by the loss of loved ones or living with the memory of how someone once was before their wounding of body or mind.

It is in remembering that we look to the future; to pray and work for peace and justice for our world and for those who will come after us.
