Wednesday Reflection for 7th May

On Sunday we read in John ch 21 about the disciples who had left Jerusalem after Jesus resurrection, after seeing him twice. They went back to their local area, the Sea of Galilee, and, because some of them were fishermen went out to fish, doing an ordinary, everyday activity.

They fished through the night but caught nothing.

In the morning they saw a man on the beach who told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat and they caught a lot of fish. Then they realised it was Jesus and rowed ashore with their fish.

Jesus had made a fire and was cooking fish and there was bread for breakfast. He asked them to bring some of their own catch too to cook.

In the all age worship talk we thought about how we sometimes expect God to provide everything for us to receive

or sometimes we think we have to work hard by ourselves to achieve what needs to be done.

Here, Jesus had made the fire and had started breakfast BUT he asked for the disciples to give what they had too so there was enough.

Together, what the disciples offered became part of what God was doing making a satisfying outcome.
