Last Saturday some of us took part in a short pilgrimage around our building and gardens with places to stop and think about Jesus’ last journey towards Jerusalem and our own Lent journey.
At the side of the Church building facing a busy road we have an old stone font in our Remembrance Garden. This is the reflection for that stopping point.
THE JOURNEY HAS BEEN GOING ON THROUGH THE AGES
Looking at the font
The Pilgrimage has gone on from before we were born; from the days of Adam and Eve, Abraham, David, Mary, Peter, to our own ancestors, to this spot.
This font came from Inverleith Church, which was founded in 1881, to this site at St Serf’s Church (founded in 1899) when these two congregations united 14 years ago; the members of both congregations joining together in this building to carry the Good News of Jesus to this parish and beyond.
Today, we continue on this journey and will pass it on to the following generations.
Your hand, O God, has guided
your flock, from age to age;
the wondrous tale is written,
full clear, on every page;
your people owned your goodness,
and we their deeds record;
and both of this bear witness:
one Church, one Faith, one Lord.
We remembered those who have gone before us on the Pilgrimage and who have helped us along our personal journey by planting crosses with their names in the Remembrance Garden.
